Wintry wishes
This time of year I begin racking my brain about Christmas. Do I really need anything? What would make me happy to receive? There are always little things that I never deem acceptable to spend money on. Socks, kitchen gadgets and non-thrifted basics all fall into this category. Then there's things I simply can't afford. Leather shoes, a sewing machine. It's difficult to find a balance around this season between "I want I want I want", and "don't give me anything because I have too much stuff". For me it has become a thoughtful reflection of the qualities that give me happiness. Comfort, warmth, and the ability to create.

Pinboard, lately
Using Pinterest to make a vision board for my paintings, design etc. Love the combo of red/orange and blue; nordic folk patterns; woodland creatures; creamy neutral bases; typography; blankets.

Studio time
... on my dining table. How I miss my studio at school.

making messes is necessary, but gets in the way of my eating noodles in a civilized fashion. Art days tend to coincide with eating-dinner-on-the-couch days.

It's well and truly fall...
Amazing find at the thrift store this week- beautiful vintage American-made dishes in a complete set. I only got two dinner plates, two saucers and one serving platter, as some pieces were chipped or stained, but I am so in love with the pattern. There was no bowls or teacups, maybe eBay?
"Spotted" a Fly Agaric or amanita muscaria while out looking for chanterelles yesterday. Seems like we found every northwest mushroom except chanterelles. But no matter, had lots of fun looking.
Common puffballs. Should have collected some for dinner, we found tons!

September in the Mountains
Drove out the Mt. Baker hwy about an hour up the mountain to camp on the North Fork of the Nooksack river, just outside Glacier. Absolutely perfect weather, glorious sunset, almost-full moon. The light was perfect all evening and I couldn't put my camera down. I took 400 photos in 1 day! These are my favorites.
Bellingham Farmers Market
We've had a very late summer here in the Pacific NW, and here we are in mid- September with tomatoes, corn, peaches and peppers just arriving in the markets. We spent last night picking green beans, corn and pears, digging potatoes and carrots, and eating all of it out under the pear tree at my parents house. My camera was dead by that time, so no photos of 14 people crammed around a picnic table for you.
Up next: Camping!
