It's the Sims for grown-ups! Without all the babysitting and life decisions, that is. An easy way to play with floorplans, wall color, furniture placement, or to build really ridiculous fantasy houses-
Autodesk Homestyler is a free web app that allows you to take detailed "snapshots" of your design, view in 2-D and 3-D, expand walls with a click and drag (who doesn't dream of that?) add floors, build patios and landscaping, all from a database with plenty of options. Want to know what your bathroom would look like in eggplant? just replicate your floorplan, approximate your fittings, try new ones, even shop for the items you like. If you're anything like me- constrained in real life by rental agreements- you may find ultimate freedom in design addicting.
